1. Pull over to a safe location:

First things first, you need to find a safe place to pull over. If you’re on the side of a busy highway, it’s best to exit the highway and find a safe spot on the shoulder or in a parking lot.

2. Put on your emergency brake:

Once you’ve found a safe location, put your car in park and turn on your emergency brake. This will help keep your car from rolling while you’re changing the tire.

3. Loosen the lug nuts:

The next step is to loosen the lug nuts that hold the flat tire in place. You’ll need a lug wrench for this. Place the wrench on one of the nuts and turn it counterclockwise until it’s loose. Repeat this step for all of the lug nuts.

4. Remove the lug nuts:

Now that the lug nuts are loose, you can remove them by hand. Just turn them counterclockwise until they come off completely.

5. Lift the flat tire off:

The next step is to lift the flat tire off of the car. You may need a jack for this. Place the jack under the car and pump it until the flat tire is lifted off of the ground.

6. Put on the spare tire:

Once the flat tire is off, it’s time to put on the spare tire. Simply line up the holes in the tire with the bolts on the car and push it into place.

7. Tighten the lug nuts:

The next step is to tighten the lug nuts that hold the spare tire in place. You’ll need a lug wrench for this. Place the wrench on one of the nuts and turn it clockwise until it’s tight. Repeat this step for all of the lug nuts.

8. Lower the car:

Once the lug nuts are tight, you can lower the car by releasing the jack. Keep in mind that you should only drive on a spare tire for a short distance as they are not meant to be used for long periods of time.

To change a flat tire may seem like a daunting task, but it’s actually relatively easy to do if you know how. Just follow these eight steps and you’ll be back on the road in no time.
